Common Problems – Shared Solutions is a free, three-day symposium, jointly presented by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA). This symposium brings together experts in audiovisual digitisation, engineering and collection management to identify and solve common issues and practices through shared solutions.
We are five years away from Deadline 2025 – the critical date identified by UNESCO after which content held on magnetic tape might be lost forever due to carrier degradation, lack of working playback devices and loss of human engineering expertise. Our collections are at risk and we must act quickly in order to digitise and save hundreds of thousands of hours of Australian stories, heritage and history.
- Day 1 – Preserving Collections in Practice: Case Studies
- Day 2 – Developing the Shared Solutions Model
- Day 3 – Frameworks, Initiatives and Outcomes
